An Illinois teacher known as “Ms. Helma” ensured that 10-year-old Maggie Vazquez, who has cerebral palsy, could participate in a two-day hiking trip. Ms. Helma’s commitment involved physically carrying Maggie, making the experience inclusive and memorable.

Despite the tough terrain, Ms. Helma was inspired by Maggie’s resilience and joy. Maggie’s mother, Michelle Vazquez, praised the teacher for her exceptional effort. The school’s executive director, Sarah Elizabeth Ippel, described Ms. Helma as the “epitome of relentless determination.”
